Accounting is for accountants and what’s frustrating is they want to keep it this way, so it’s not really suprising that individuals like me who manage a small business and cannot and don’t want to pay an accountant uncovered the shortcut I want to share with you here. Everyone who creates or manages their own business has ’higher priority’ tasks to perform than spend hours on their bookkeeping. Bookkeeping is one of those arduous tasks that many people enjoy doing but should be undertaken on a regular basis to avoid issues.

I asked my accountant for guidance and he persuaded me to use Sage Software which turned out to be a small business accounting software package. I immediately went out and purchased the package without even considering if it was the right choice. Looking back I am relieved I didn’t burn too much money on this as this package is arguably the worst and most complex application I have ever used. To be frank whenever I see the word accounting next to the word software I am immediately reminded of the first piece of advice I must share with you and that is most small business accounting software assumes the user possesses good working knowledge of accounting.

Like me I know this simply isn’t the case for most small business owners and this drove me to put aside time that I didn’t really have to find a solution to make my life simpler. The good news is I found a really good solution, it’s an online system known as salesorder.com.

This is arguably the simplest software I have ever found and what’s more it is internet based and therefore I can use it from anywhere I want to work. Better still and the third piece of wisdom I want to share with you is that the people who work at salesorder.com are not just very knowledgeable of their service but they know a significant amount about the problems of running a small business and have taught me the bookkeeping I need to know.
