The Job Interview

A major hurdle to overcome when applying for a new job is the interview stage.

The first step was sending your application and after careful review by the company, you are seen as candidate for the vacant position. The employer will have received your information after you made your application online or via a recruitment agency.

Your CV is your first introduction to your potential new employer.Always make sure that your CV is accurate and engaging, as many employers only look at each one for around thirty seconds before moving on to the next.

Your CV provides an introduction to you and your career history, but during the interview you will be asked to provide much more detail. You will need to discuss your previous career achievements and any skills you have learned whilst working for other organisations. Describe in detail how you reacted in a positive way to the challenges you faced in your previous jobs and what you have gained from these experiences.

Family and social life may also be discussed, so the interviewer can get a feel for your personality and how you interact with others.

You will be asked to describe your ideal career path and discuss why you would like to work for that particular employer. Be specific about the company itself, if your interview is for John Lewis job vacancies, tell them something you like about John Lewis.

Interviewers like to ask questions about your future goals as they can see how motivated you are.

Companies follow a certain budget in hiring qualified personnel which is why the interviewer will ask how much one desires to get for the job.If you salary expectations are too high you may be rejected or asked to consider a reduction.

After the employer asks questions, room is usually given for the applicant to ask questions in return.

Asking questions gives you the opportunity to learn more about the job and the company.

You may be invited back for a second interview before being told if you have been hired.
